Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member and Dhaka city north unit’s Ameer Mohammed Selim Uddin called on everyone to be united to build a new Bangladesh free from corruption, misrule and discrimination.
He today made the remarks as the chief guest while speaking at an Iftar party at the Café Reo restaurant in the capital’s Gulshan. Bangladesh Cultural Academy arranged the Iftar Party in honor of poets-litterateurs, journalists and well-wishers. Abdur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Cultural Academy, presided over the event. Ibrahim Bahari, secretary of the academy made the inaugural speech.
Ramadan is the month of self-purification and attaining Taqwa (fear to Allah). If people of the country would attain Taqwa, the little girl Asia had not died, added Selim Uddin.
Our country’s art, literature and cultural arenas are filled with filth. A class of poets, writers and cultural workers cannot move forward in their works without the constant exposure of sexual misconduct, lewdness and offensive depictions of the female body, city Ameer alleged.
But our pious poets and writers have been able to prove that it is possible to practise art and culture while maintaining decency. And those who practise obscene culture must be brought to a positive and ideal path, urged Selim Uddin.
Basically, obscenities in our country have been turned into a commercial product. Several activists in our country in the arena of art and culture are misguided. They are destroying people’s faith and beliefs by encouraging obscenity and lewdness. The female body has been made into a product, Selim Uddin further alleged.
He urged the poets, journalists, and singers to play a vital role against obscenity in the country.
City Ameer further urged everyone to work together to build a new Bangladesh free from poverty, unemployment and discrimination.
Maulana Anwer Hossain Mollah, principal of Badda Kamil Madrasha, led the Munazat.
Al-Muzahide, one of the leading poets of the country, Prof Shamsul Islam, vice-chancellor of Islamic Arabic University, Dr Chowdhury Mahmud Hasan, former vice-chancellor of Manarat International University, Dr AZM Obaidullah, Dr Rezaul Karim, assistant editor of weekly Sonar Bangla, Muhammad Ataur Rahman Sarker, CEO of NNBD24, Mahbub Mukul, singer Bayezid Mahmud, poet Hasan Alim, Jakir Abu Jafor among others spoke in the event.
